Should I Be Worried About the Summer Slide?

The short answer is yes. But what is the summer slide?

The summer slide is the regression that students experience in their learning over the summer when they aren’t actively building academic skills during the summer.  Studies show that a “summer slide” can cost a student up to two months of learning.  These learning losses can accumulate from year to year, causing students to have lost nearly a year of education by the time they reach sixth grade.

Scary right?

Luckily, the solution is simple.  Keeping your children “academically engaged” for a few hours per week will prevent those losses.

So what can you do to keep your kids academically engaged?

Take them to the library and have your local librarian help your child choose age-appropriate books for them to read.  Guide them to free online math games that are both fun and educational.

Or prevent the summer slide AND get ahead for next year with one of our enriching summer courses. We offer two convenient sessions (you can enroll in one or both) and offer classes in a variety of subject areas for all levels of learners.
